Sarada Glass is a glass and mirror shop at Kewtia Road, near Dum Dum, on the North 24 Parganas side of Kolkata. We started in 2020, and since then we've fitted toughened glass, frosted glass, LED mirrors and uPVC windows in homes, flats, shops and offices around the city. No big office, no call centre — just Amar and Paye, and a small team that comes to your house and does the job properly.

Below are the questions people usually ask us on WhatsApp or over a phone call. If yours isn't here, message us — 8250144620.

Where is Sarada Glass located, and which areas do you cover?

Our shop is at 474, Kewtia Road, Keotia, North 24 Parganas, close to Kolkata airport and Dum Dum. But the work isn't limited to just around the shop. We regularly take jobs in Madhyamgram, Barasat, Barrackpore, Bhatpara, Naihati, Salt Lake, New Town and Rajarhat too. If you're anywhere in Kolkata or North 24 Parganas searching for a "glass shop near me," call us first — there's a good chance we already work in your area.

What does Sarada Glass actually make and fit?

Four main things:

Toughened and normal glass — doors, windows, table tops, shelves, balcony railings and shower cubicles Frosted and coloured glass — office partitions, bathroom privacy, kitchen backsplashes and decorative walls

LED mirrors and decorative mirrors — bathroom, dressing, wall and full-length, with or without lights

uPVC windows and doors — sliding, casement, French, made to the exact size of your flat or house

We also handle the site visit, the measuring, the cutting and the fitting ourselves. You don't need a separate person to install what we sell.

What is toughened glass, and do I really need it at home?

Toughened glass, some people call it tempered glass, is normal glass that's been heated and cooled very fast. That makes it about four to five times stronger than plain glass. If it ever breaks, it crumbles into small, blunt pieces instead of sharp shards. That's really the whole point of it.

You need it anywhere someone could bump into the glass — shower doors, balcony railings, office partitions, any glass door at home. For a table top or a cabinet shelf that nobody leans on, plain glass usually does the job, and it costs less too.

How much does toughened glass cost per square foot in Kolkata?

It depends on thickness. As a rough 2026 idea, 6mm–8mm glass, the kind used for doors and partitions, runs around ₹100–₹180 per square foot, and 12mm glass, used for railings and heavy partitions, sits closer to ₹180–₹250 per square foot. These move up or down with the finish and how much cutting is involved. The only number worth trusting is the one we give after seeing your site or your exact measurements.

What's the difference between frosted glass and coloured glass?

Frosted glass is see-through glass made cloudy on purpose, usually with acid or by sandblasting, so people can't see straight through it. It's mainly for privacy — bathroom windows, office cabins, front doors where you want light but not a clear view in.

Coloured glass is a different thing. It's tinted or painted on the back in a solid colour, black, bronze, blue, grey, whatever suits the space, and it's chosen more for looks than privacy. A lot of our clients use coloured glass on kitchen backsplashes since it wipes clean and doesn't stain like tiles do.

Both can be toughened if you want the safety along with the look.

Is frosted glass film the same as frosted glass?

No, and this trips a lot of people up. Frosted film is a sticky sheet pasted onto ordinary clear glass. It's cheaper and quick to put up, but it peels at the edges after a while, especially in our humidity, and it never feels as solid. Real frosted glass, where the glass itself is etched or sandblasted, costs more but it's permanent, doesn't scratch off, and isn't something you'll be replacing in two years. For a rented flat or a short-term need, film is a fair choice. For your own home, we'd suggest the real thing.

Can I get uPVC windows with frosted or tinted glass instead of plain clear glass?

Yes, and quite a few people ask for exactly this. The uPVC frame and the glass inside it are two separate choices. So a bathroom window, for instance, can have a uPVC frame with frosted glass fitted in for privacy, instead of the plain clear glass that comes as standard. Just tell us the room and what you're trying to avoid, direct sunlight, someone seeing in, and we'll suggest the right combination.

Why are people moving from wooden windows to uPVC in Kolkata?

Simple reason, wood doesn't hold up well in our weather. Between the monsoon damp and the everyday humidity here, wooden frames swell, stick, and eventually rot or pick up termites. uPVC doesn't rot, doesn't rust, doesn't need repainting every few years, and it seals better, so less dust and rain gets in around the edges. It's a one-time cost that saves you the yearly maintenance headache.

How much do uPVC windows cost per square foot?

Basic sliding or casement uPVC windows usually fall somewhere between ₹280 and ₹700 per square foot, depending on the profile and the glass used, and that goes up if you want double glazing for extra sound or heat insulation. Doors cost more, especially French doors or anything with wide panels. The real number depends on your window size and what's currently fitted in your flat, so send us a photo on WhatsApp and we'll work out a fair estimate.

Do you make custom size LED mirrors?

Yes, that's most of our mirror orders, actually. Bathroom mirrors especially, since every bathroom is a slightly different size. We measure on site and cut the mirror to fit exactly, rather than selling a standard size that leaves a gap on either side. We also fit the LED strip, the demister pad if you want one (stops the mirror fogging up after a hot shower, genuinely useful in Kolkata's humidity), and the touch switch if that's what you'd like.

Is an LED mirror worth the extra money over a normal mirror with a light above it?

For a bathroom, yes. A normal mirror with a light above it throws a shadow under your chin and around your eyes, anyone who's tried shaving or doing make-up under one knows this problem well. An LED mirror lights the face evenly because the light comes from behind or around the glass itself, not from one point above. It also draws less power than a separate bulb fitting, and there's no extra light fixture to wire up. The mirror is the light.

Can I see samples or visit a showroom before deciding?

Yes, please do. We'd rather you touch the glass, see a mirror lit up, and check the uPVC profile in your hand than order off a photo. Our shop is at 474, Kewtia Road, open Monday to Saturday, 10 in the morning to 7 in the evening. Sundays we're closed. If you're travelling from far, message us on WhatsApp first so we keep the right samples ready.

Do you charge for the site visit and measurement?

No, the site visit and measurement is free. We come, measure, understand what you actually need, and send a written quote after. There's no pressure to book right away, plenty of people take the quote and think it over for a few days, and that's fine with us.

Do you only take on full projects, or can you also handle a small job, like one broken glass pane?

Small jobs are welcome too. A cracked window pane, one broken mirror, a glass tabletop that needs replacing, we do these just as seriously as a full flat's worth of windows. The site visit and quote process is the same either way.

What happens if toughened glass breaks on its own?

It's rare, but it can happen, usually from a tiny flaw inside the glass from manufacturing, or from edge damage that wasn't visible to the eye. This is called spontaneous breakage, and when it happens the glass crumbles into small pieces rather than falling as sharp shards, which is exactly why toughened glass is used in these spots in the first place. If this ever happens with glass we've fitted, send us photos on WhatsApp and we'll take a look.

Can toughened glass be cut or drilled after it's made?

No, and this is worth knowing before you order. Once glass is toughened, it can't be cut, drilled, or resized. Every hole, every edge, every exact measurement has to be decided before the toughening, not after. That's why we measure carefully on site first. If a size changes after the order is placed, we can't just trim it down like plain glass, the piece has to be remade.

Do you work with shops, offices and showrooms too, or only homes?

Both. Home fittings are most of our work, but we also do office partitions, shop counters, showroom glass fronts and shopfront signage glass. Commercial jobs usually need a bit more planning around your working hours, so we try to schedule fitting for early morning or after closing time, whatever suits your business better.

Is there a good or bad time of year to get glass and mirror work done?

Most people in Kolkata rush their home fittings just before Durga Puja, so September gets genuinely busy for shops like ours, bookings pile up and waiting time goes up. If your work isn't urgent, doing it in a quieter month, right after Puja, or in early summer, usually means a faster turnaround. The other thing to keep in mind is the monsoon. Outdoor fittings like balcony railings are easier to schedule in dry weather, so where you have a choice, try to avoid booking those for July–August.

Do you give a bill and any warranty on the work?

Yes, every job comes with a proper bill. If anything about the fitting itself isn't right, tell us and we'll come and fix it, that's simply how we've run this since 2020.

How long does an order usually take, from booking to fitting?

It depends on the item. A mirror or a small glass piece is usually quicker than a full set of uPVC windows, since those need to be ordered to an exact profile and take longer to arrive. We'll give you a real timeline once we've seen the job, not a guess over the phone.

How do I actually book a free quote?

Three ways, whichever suits you:

1. WhatsApp or call us directly on 8250144620

2. Fill in the short form on our Contact page with what you need and your area

3. Walk into the shop at 474, Kewtia Road, any time during working hours

We usually get back the same day to fix a time for the site visit.
